As summer begins to fade, the Matty Fund is busy planning Fall activities including our annual Golf Tournament at Richmond County Club on September 18th which is selling out quickly. We are preparing to "rock for epilepsy" this Sunday, August 8th at the Rock'n'Jock Celebrity Concert at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. We are honored that proceeds from this event will benefit the Matty Fund. Just a few of the featured entertainers include: John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Steve Smith and the Nakeds and "The Big Man", Clarence Clemons of the Bruce Springteen's E Street Band. Don't miss it - there is still time to get tickets!
The highlight of the summer was "Camp Matty", held at Turning Pointe Therapeutic Horseback Riding Facility in Ashaway, RI. Each day was filled with fun, arts and crafts and games, but the focus of the week was the joy the children experienced in daily horseback riding and learning to care for their horses. Friendships were formed among children and parents alike. It is one week out of the year where parents could watch their children just be kids in a safe and accessible environment. It is true that on one particular day horses could be seen trotting around sporting the finger paint art work of Matty’s Kids! Camp Matty was supported each day by wonderful volunteers including students, parents and medical staff from the Children’s Neurodevelopment Center at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. One mom emailed us the day after camp ended with this message, “Zachary was so disappointed this morning because he was not going to camp. He can’t wait until next year!” We couldn’t agree more!
